Harry MacCormack MFA
Owner/operator of Sunbow Farm since 1972. Taught at Oregon State University for 30 years: creative writing, technical theatre, play writing and screenwriting. Taught in the Honors College courses on Man and the Environment, and Organic agriculture, and worked with researchers at OSU establishing programs in sustainable agriculture.
He was Co-founder, 1st Executive Director and Research and Education Director of Oregon Tilth. For that organization he wrote the Standards and Guidelines for Organic Agriculture (used as the basis of many early certification programs), The Transition Document:Toward an Environmentally Sound Agriculture and hundreds of articles on the range of subjects that is organic agriculture.
Harry is the author of A Catechism for the Children of Delight and the forthcoming In the Spirit of the Garden, plus 5 books of poetry, 6 stage plays and 2 screen plays. He founded two farmers' markets and helped start several others. He currently serves as President of the Tilth Foundation and lectures in the US and other countries on a range of topics.
Carol Deppe PhD
Author of the classic Breed Your Own Vegetable Varieties: The Farmers and Gardeners Guide to Breeding and Seed Saving, Carol teaches very complex science through very funny story telling. Her current passions are long-term food security and maintaining free range ducks for eggs. Carol has all the credentials, all the scientific papers, and the wisdom that comes from continual gardening, plant breeding, and care for the land, all life, and the human community.
Shepard Smith, Certified Soil Foodweb Advisor
Shepard grew up on orange groves in Florida. He kept bees there and has a wealth of agriculture experiences along with a degree in science. He was the person at Sunbow who for two years worked diligently developing compost tea for use here and in field research initiated by Soil Foodweb Inc. Shepard has consulted, given presentations, and helped growers all over Oregon, Florida, Mexico and currently Hawaii. His hands on experience in using the microbiology of the soil foodweb to transition and enhance farms and gardens is very special.
Cheri Clark, Business Manager
Cheri is the chief administrator of the Institute. She keeps us all organized. She is also a skilled nutritional and personal transformation counselor. She spent years in retail/medical management positions. Her sense for business, her depth of knowledge about supplements will be shared whenever a curious person has a question.
